Shura is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, textiles, and mixed media to explore themes of identity, memory, and human connection. Born into a Russian-Ukrainian family and raised in Finland, her practice is shaped by a cross-cultural perspective and a deep interest in the emotional language of materials.
Combining traditional portraiture with embroidered textures, fabric layering and hand-stitched elements, Shura’s work investigates how we carry, conceal, and reveal aspects of ourselves. Her visual language is intuitive and tactile—often weaving personal narrative with broader reflections on belonging, femininity, and intimacy.
Shura is a self-taught fine artist with a background in costume design, having studied at the University of the Arts London. Her earlier experience designing for performance continues to influence her sensitivity to body, form, and surface. She has exhibited across London in group shows at The Holy Art, Boomer Gallery, and St Michael’s and All Angels, with work that invites close looking and emotional resonance.
Alongside her studio practice, Shura works as an educator and creative facilitator, designing inclusive art experiences for young people and community groups. She is passionate about making the arts more accessible and representative—especially for those whose voices are often overlooked.
