TITANIA
I created this costume based on my design of Titania from Shakespear's "A Midsummers Nights Dream". The design was influenced by the Aurora Borealis and the female praying Mantis. I wanted to portray Titania as powerful and dangerous femme fatale. She is the Queen of fairies but also a seductress, who leaves her husband Oberon jealous and desperate for her attention. I designed this costume to challenge the ideas of sexuality and promote a powerful female character. The costume is created for a dance production of "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and therefore I have kept in mind the ideas of movement and flexibility for this costume, which can be seen through Titania's skirt and bodysuit.
